Exotic Saisons and Exotic Structures.

Happy Tuesday! Today, I had my final exam in architectural history, which definitely warrants a beer and some reflection on the past semester!
Tonight, I'm drinking Zarabanda, an exciting saison from renowned Oregon brewers Deschutes. This slightly sour offering has notes of lime zest and pink peppercorns, which combine to create a delightful beer!

I was really surprised by how little head this beer had, but was also excited to be able to drink it immediately! There's also a little bit of heat in the aftertastes- this would pair really well with some of the infamous fish tacos from my favorite local pub, The Royale.

This "Spanish take" on the saison reminded me of one of the most outlandish architects I learned about this semester- Santiago Calatrava. Born in 1951, Calatrava has designed some amazing sculptural works of architecure, including the World Trade Center transportation hub (currently in progress in New York) and Peace Bridge, in Calgary. Many of his designs feature swooping curves and subtle eyelash-inspired motifs. His designs that have not come to fruition include the Chicago Spire and a building for the Ryerson University campus in Toronto; in the latter case, his design was rejected in favor of a design that was less costly. Below are some pictures of his work!
