This fragrant and tasty Dunkelweizen has been rolling out of Shiner, Texas since 2010. I really love the caramelized peach and pecan notes on this one; many Christmas beers I've tried utilize the predictable fall/winter spices, but this dessert-influenced beer really stands out. The head dissipates quickly, and once the peach flavor notes fade, there's a sweet malty aftertaste.
Since Shiner is brewed in Texas, and I'm also feeling nostalgic for holiday house parties of years past, I figured I'd chat a bit about one of my top-5 most-despised NHL teams- the Dallas Stars.
Where do I begin with the Dallas Stars? Currently ranked 11th in the Western Conference (and 22nd overall, ouch), the team began its life in 1967 as the Minnesota North Stars. In 1993, the franchise moved to Dallas. The Stars do happen to have a Stanley Cup title (won during the 1998-1999 season), which is more than my beloved Saint Louis Blues can claim, but we outrank them in number of division championship wins (8 to their 7). Both teams have a history of fans modifying the lyrics to the National Anthem when it is sung before every game; Stars fans shout "stars" or "star" when the words appear in the song, and Blues fans overwhelmingly revise the last line of the anthem to be "The land of the free and the home of the BLUES."
The Blues will face off against the Stars in Saint Louis twice more this season, on December 27th and on February 17th. They will also play in Texas both in March and April of 2015. They've already met up once this season, and the Blues beat the Stars 4-3 in overtime.
That concludes today's post! I'd love to know if any of my readers are hockey fans; you can leave a comment below with your favorite team.
Go Pens!
