Let the festivities begin!

It's been a busy day! My long-distance boyfriend got to Saint Louis late last night, and I worked today. We went out to dinner with my parents at Old Standard! I got a leg, a side of mashed potatoes, and a side of mac&cheese, a new and scrumptious addition to the menu. In fact, it was so good that I gobbled it all up before I could take a picture!
After we got home, I wrapped some presents and played through a few character levels of Borderlands: The PreSequel, a game I've been looking forward to since it was announced in April. For those unfamiliar with the franchise, Borderlands is a combination first-person shooter, rpg set in space. There are robots, lasers, explosions, Pirates, unicorns made of diamonds, chemical testing, pirate ships, and more. Borderlands has become one of my absolute favorite video game series.
All of that was more tiring than it may have sounded, so I decided to enjoy a shower beer.

Today's selection was Rogue's Mocha Porter, an appropriately wintery brew with a beautiful creamy-tan head and bitter chocolate flavor notes. Sadly, the bitter far outweighs the chocolate, which really only shines in the aftertaste. The mouthfeel, though, is this beer's weak point, with a very watery consistency. In light of the abundance of excellent mocha winter beers available and this beer's flaws and lack of Wow! factor, I have to give Rogue's Mocha Porter a C-.

Tomorrow I'm hoping to get your regularly scheduled advent calendar post up around 6pm Central time, and then Sunday I'll have a post about Morgan Street Brewery's Ugly Christmas Sweater Party! It should be a fun time before I head out of town for the early part of Christmas week. I'll also provide a posting schedule through the end of the year, including some posts dedicated to exploring the beers I tasted at this week's bottle share.
